HEART Program

Healing Empowering and Actively Recovering Together (HEART)

HEART is designed to assist with combating the impact of the substance abuse epidemic in Kentucky, especially the lack of support options for pregnant and parenting women with substance use.  The HEART program model is small group experiences for mothers and babies in recovery or seeking recovery using an evidence-based parent education curriculum to support pregnant and parenting women.  The overall purpose of the program is to increase parental competence when parenting their children and to support the mothers in building resiliency to reduce the likelihood of return to use.  Through this experience, participants build protective factors to minimize the opportunities for stress and feelings of being overwhelmed.  This parent-driven and strength-based program provides resources for physical and mental healing, education, and skill building for nurturing parenting, and the necessary supports for success in long-term recovery.

Mission:

The mission of HEART is to build strong social connections, parental resiliency, and awareness of treatment options for optimal child development and family health well-being.
